As sickness sweeps the nation (I’m an alarmist), I thought I’d repost this please-save-me-from-getting-sick drink. It’s more of a hot brew. And it’s awesome.
Drink this and never be sick again (optimism, friends!)
Citrus goldmine. Can’t you just see the Vitamin C?
You can use liquid echinacea, or capsules. Open and dump in cup.
Now, for you pulp haters, you can blend the ginger with your blender or vitamix, or simply put ginger into your cute mug. I quite like the floating ginger, though the blender with create some nice foam.
Stir. Drink. Live.
This hot brew tastes divine. The ginger, citrus and cayenne come together for a tangy, sweet pazazz. It clears the head and prepares the immune system army to fight against those nasty invaders.
Immune System Super Blast Drink:
1 tablespoon grated or chopped ginger
1 lemon, squeezed
echinacea drops or powder
1 pinch of cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon honey
1 1/2 cups boiling water
Makes 1 large mug or two small.
Interested in the immune system boosting properties? Ginger, lemon, echinacea, cayenne pepper, and honey are all natural illness fighters. They are tied to immune boost, but also in cough suppression, nausea prevention, and helping to reduce the duration of cold symptoms. In addition, they are all plant-based and/or whole foods.
Let food by they medicine!
Be well…and don’t forget who loves you. Me.

Aw, didn’t know about the ginger. I always have a little honey lemon juice with cayenne and then Echinacea on the side, but I’ll have to try this! I’ve got a wee cold myself. 🙁
I just remembered a funny story. Once Eric attempted to make honey lemon juice for himself, but he didn’t know what the “x” stood for so he ended up with a TABLESPOON of cayenne. That’s one way to clear out your sinuses! 🙂
I would love to see Eric drink that 🙂 And take of yourself, mama 🙂
I am trying this right now! Been trying to get rid of a cold for two weeks now! Thank you!

I hope it helps, Elizabeth!
This is similar to a hot toddy I drink when I’m sick. Lemon, honey, hot water and whiskey. I love to just hold it up to my nose and let the whiskey fumes just clear my sinuses right out!
Yummy! It has all of my favorite things in it! If I really thought it would keep from getting Norovirus, I would drink it morning, noon and night. Our whole family got it 7 years ago, and I’m still traumatized: my son ended up in the hospital!
I wish you health and wellness!
We can but hope we are not dogged by the flu this coming winter, but just in case I’ll have a batch of this ready to go sick or not.
Another awesome, healthy recipe!and hey, my daughter has converted more of her friends to live pomegranates! Yippee
Since the echinacea capsules are made of gelatin, and since one usually consumes them, and because we are atomizing everything in the Vitamix, why not skip the “open and dump in the cup” step?
That is a good point, Heather – I never even thought about it! When we first began making this we didn’t have a Vitamix. But now that we use it, I’m sure it would blend it right up just fine. Good time saver – thanks!
This looks yummy. I am lacking a few ingredients, but I’ll get them this weekend and give it a try!
How about adding some elderberry syrup too?
